Lydia Street Deconstruction+Move Reconstruction . The photos below chronicle the restoration process, with images in reverse chronological order (please click on a thumbnail to view an enlargement). To view images of the preparation for moving and foundation work, please click here.
In the photo sequence below, the roof had been reframed and dormers added (the attic serves as a master bedroom) and the first phase of the basement retaining wall had been built. Interior framing, plumbing rough and top-off, electrical and mechanical rough, as well as restoration of ceilings had likewise been completed. Near the top are images of the new spiral staircase built by Terry Stewart around salvaged timbers from the main room subfloor and a "new" timber we bought which came out of the demolished Chicago Stock Exchange; the treads are stained MDF. At the time of the very top images we were preparing for interior painting, restoration of floors, finishing windows, and installing electrical and plumbing fixtures.
