Bee Ranch
Currently
under design, this single-family home is intended to be entirely off
the grid, relying on a two-fold energy strategy. First and foremost,
its siting, orientation, and morphology are all designed to capitalize
on prevailing breezes, shady roof overhangs, daylighting, screened
porches, appropriate insulation, and thermal stack effects to be
naturally and passively cooler, thus reducing the home's energy
requirements in the first place. Secondly, appliances and lighting are all carefully selected to minimize energy loads.
Finally, energy requirements are met through a photovoltaic array,
solar hot water heaters and radiant floor heating, and propane
appliances where appropriate.
